Three Steps to Personal Success

The direct sales industry allows for enormous success – both personally and professionally. I have seen literally thousands of women change their entire lives thanks to this amazing industry.

One thing that they all have in common is that they focused on their own personal growth as much as they did their business growth. Often times we get stuck “standing in our own way” even though we are perfectly capable of achieving even our BOLDest of goals.

If you find yourself as one of the latter, here are three tips that you can do to help you move closer toward your goals.

Three Steps to Personal Success

1 – Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable. I know that seems like a bit of an absurdity, but if you think about how our industry pushes us to step out of our Comfort Zone so often, it really makes sense.

Being a Direct Sales Professional pushes you to do things you wouldn’t normally do, say things you normally wouldn’t say, and go places you normally wouldn’t go.

It proves the saying “if it were easy, everyone would do it” in major ways. This leads to being pretty uncomfortable in most, and downright fear in others.

Think of the last time you tried to learn something new. It was something you did not already know, therefore out of your comfort zone, but you did it anyway, and before long were rocking away at it.

That new hobby or skill then became PART of your comfort zone.  By pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, you actually expanded it to include something new. The same can be true with our business.

2 – Do Not Compare Yourself to Anyone Else. The Kentucky Derby is known as the “Most Exciting 2 Minutes in Sports.” The excitement and work that goes into those 2 minutes is absolutely mind boggling.

The energy is palpable. But the horses don’t know that.  Most of them are wearing blinders that only allow them to see directly in front of them. They can not see the other horses racing beside them.  They can only see the finish line.

[Tweet ““A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.””]

It is human nature to try to compare ourselves to others.  The truth of the matter is we seldom know enough about that person to know whether or not there is any comparison.

A married, stay at home mom’s situation does not compare to a single college student’s situation.  If one or the other is more successful, neither one of them can compare to each other.

When setting new goals, you can only try to “beat your best” and strive to do more than you have already personally done.

3 – Celebrate Even The Little Things. Women are by far the most self-deprecating creatures alive. We very seldom give ourselves credit for the things we HAVE done, and beat ourselves up for the things we HAVEN’T.

Well, I am just telling you – STOP IT!

You need to change your way of thinking and see success in everything that you do – no matter how small.  Celebrate little victories every single day.

If you got up on time, got dressed to hairspray, all before 8am – CELEBRATE!  If you picked up the phone to make a Customer Care call, even though you only left a voicemail – CELEBRATE!

If you composed an email blast and sent it out to your 11 clients because you have only had one party ever – CELEBRATE!

When you find success in every action you do, you will create a better result with each new action.

To sum it up: Enjoy being uncomfortable, because it means you are expanding yourself, and your business.  Strive to always “beat your own best” and let everyone else do their own thing.

And celebrate every little thing that you do, and give yourself the proper credit you deserve.

These three things will move you personally and professionally, with much better results!
